What is the aim of the event?
To promote Vegkop as a prime Starwatching venue and thereby generate income to preserve the heritage of Vegkop. We also want to see how many telescopes we can get together in one spot.

Vegkop is the place where the first battle took place between the boers and the local tribes north of the Orange river. This took place in October 1836. More info at the Vegkop Website

Vegkop is +-20km south of Heilbron on the Lyndley road. It is a tar road up to the Vegkop turn-off, with a 1km gravel road up to the terrain. Google maps here
Who can or should attend the event?
Anybody that is interested in astronomy or starwatching, who wants to know more about the topic or who wants to experience the exceptional night sky of Vegkop. Whether you are someone that is interested in the stars, an enthusiast or an advanced amateur astronomer, this event is meant for you. You don’t need a telescope to attend the event.
What makes Vegkop so exceptional?
It is the quality of Vegkop’s night sky that is so exceptional, and it is not far from the city. On the Bortle scale, which was developed as a measurement of night sky quality, Vegkop is on level 2, whereas Sutherland is level 1. See this link for more information on the Bortle scale.
